Now onto the Swamp Runner Mud Motors Medium Kit Assembly. This kit came out on top in the unboxing phase. Now lets see how it does for the assembly phase.

Assembling the Swamp Runner Mud Motors Medium Kit

Right out of the gate, this instruction manual stood out compared to the other kits. This is the only manual that looked like a manual. It looked professional. First off it starts off with the tools that you will need. This is what I used:

Overview of Assembly

With the Thai longtail mud motors, assembly is pretty straight forward and similar to each other, because these kits have the same major components; a longtail shaft, coupler housing, engine base, transom bracket, tiller handle, ect… But they are different from one another.

The Swamp Runner Mud Motors Medium Kit assembly went great. Starting with the small, 42 page, hand sized product manual. Inside it gives you a parts list with all the parts and their assigned number. There is pictures, graphs, diagrams, and highlighted areas making it easy to read and install the kit. The diagrams stood out to me, compared to the other kits’ instructions, because it shows you exactly how to assemble the kit on every step. There were some errors in the manual, and the instructions only show the thumb throttle racing lever and not the brake lever type throttle. This manual gives you everything you need to know about your SPS Swamp Runner Mud Motors kit from safety information, to history about the company, along with tips and tricks on how to dial in your longtail mud motor.

The directions that came with the Swamp Runner Mud Motors kit was great. The one thing they could improve on is adding the additional throttle lever directions but other than that their pictures and diagrams are up to date and are easy to follow.

Coupling the Longtail Shaft

The way the longtail shaft is mated to the output shaft on the engine is through a coupler. These kits all do it differently. With Swamp Runner, they have a long coupler shaft and a longer coupler housing, which allows their long tail shaft to be longer than the competitors, which I believe is very beneficial. I will go more in depth about this in the Final Assembly Comparison.

Safety Kill Switch

Swamp Runner Mud Motors Medium Kit assembly went well, but with every kit, the safety kill switch always seems to be the most difficult. Swamp Runner’s kill switch came with wiring, thank goodness! You had to add in a small section of the wire, which you could take off of the main wire of the kill switch since it was so long, and complete the installation of the kill switch with out any additional parts except for the wire connectors of your choice. The instruction manual had a picture and diagram of what you had to do and it went very well!
